A useful hiring brief explains the desk, customer work and evidence of success. Hiring on confidence alone can overlook a candidate who qualifies carefully, follows up and keeps reliable records.

Define the actual role

Decide whether the priority is applicant handling, viewings, instruction generation or sales progression. Specify the market, working pattern, support and realistic package. A generic advert hides the differences between a trainee and an experienced instruction winner.

Assess the same evidence

Use a common scorecard covering qualification, communication, follow-through and commercial judgement. Ask for examples of actions and outcomes. Give each candidate a relevant scenario and compare the reasoning rather than simply the fluency of the answer.

Connect selection to onboarding

Identify what the chosen candidate can already do and where support is needed. Build the first month around those gaps. Explain the desk and reward scheme before an offer so expectations are aligned with the work.

Run a 15-minute team exercise

  1. Create a scenario involving an unsuitable viewing request.
  2. Score the questions asked, proposed action and recorded follow-up.
  3. Compare independent scores before discussing the candidate.

Finish by choosing one change to try this week. Name the owner and review date, and use anonymised examples rather than sharing customer or employee details.

What to review next week

Review shortlist quality, offer acceptance and first-month evidence of role competence. Track the reasons candidates decline, rather than assuming the salary was always the deciding factor.

Manager guide and member resources

This public guide explains the method. Membership adds the monthly team meeting, manager notes and editable resources; the member delivery programme remains separate from these public SEO pages.

Turn this guidance into an editable pack
